The Play Expert! A proud graduate of Rutgers University, Coach Pete began his career as an educator in Newark, New Jersey. He officially donned the title of "Coach Pete" during his 8 year tenure with an Americorps allied non-profit. This is where he acquired the skillset of the ultimate Play Expert! He began as a recess coach–directly servicing urban schools in high risk areas with safe and healthy play. He went on to train over 1,000 teachers and school based staff, craft dozens of curriculums that stress SEL competencies centered around play, and coordinate a multitude of community events. With this expertise he has founded Big Flex–an organization dedicated to play; whether it be training teachers on games and best practices surrounding recess, Team Building Workshops, sports tournaments, game facilitation strategies and much more.

Mission
To change the world through play. Children have literally lost the know-how of physical play. The leap forward society has taken with technology has amounted to regression backwards in social interaction. Kids are more accustomed to tablets than tag, 4chan than 4-square. Big Flex is here to bridge the gap, by spreading not only the philosophy of play, but the know how. We teach teachers how to play and how to
teach play.

We envision a world where all kids receive access to comprehensive play. An essential part of learning is play. Empathy, resilience, problem solving and social skills are all taught through play, which unfortunately has become a dwindling part of the school day. Coach Pete’s vision is to help kids thrive by creating opportunities for inclusive and dynamic play where they can build confidence, social skills, and physical health.
